Oh that first sip of alcohol burns so good — no, I’m not an alcoholic. I just appreciate well-mixed cocktails from creative mixologists.
This is a secret speakeasy bar hidden inside of Marquee Restaurant in Taipei. Bar Alchemy is like what the Office is to the Aviary in Chicago and Prohibition is to to East Andrews in Atlanta. To get in, you have to make reservations 2-3 days ahead of time — seatings limited to only 50 people. Tonight we are here celebrating our friend Yao’s special day.
Bar Alchemy takes you back to a time where men are in a three piece suits with a cigar in one hand and a bourbon in the other, while the lovely ladies are elegantly dressed and jeweled and their hair perfectly curled. The cozy ambience is created by the exposed bricks, the mahogany walls, and the secret book case door. They even have live music from a pianist and a jazz saxophonist.
The drinks are delicious and I think one of my favorites is the Miso-Tini. At first, you are greeted with the subtle salty miso flavor then a splash of gin and lemon to end the sip — an exquisite drink.
If you want a lighter liquor drink, try the Chrysanthemum Fizz, it’s a gin-based cocktail with a floral note mixed with tangy grapefruit juice.
I couldn’t help myself – they spelled “Bottle” wrong…lol
